Aug09 Yummly – The ‘Google’ of recipe searching

When it comes to searching for recipes on the web, it doesn’t get much slicker than this. Yes, I’ve done some work for these guys (see here), but I also use them on quite a regular basis. Recipe searches online tend to be very overwhelming–even with Google’s recipe search feature. Yummly is set up for anyone, anywhere–even my not-so-techy mother!

Pros:

  • Ability to search ALL of the top recipe sites out there–including Epicurious and AllRecipes.
  • You can completely hone in on recipes by using the easy filters–use the taste sliders to find something a little more spicy for tonight’s dinner, or filter out any allergies your guests have, even filter for how much the meal costs!
  • Save recipes for later, share them with friends, and you can even make tweaks to them–say if you add a little extra something. All of the recipes are editable (not edible–HA!).
  • Nutrition facts on almost every recipe
  • There’s a scaling feature–say it says servings is for 4, you can change it to 8 if you’re having a big dinner party and Yummly will convert all the ingredients for you! Big WIN there!
  • Setting up your ‘Tastebud’ profile is a great way to include favorite ingredients or leave out stuff you don’t like–like beets…yuck!
  • Oh yeah, it’s FREE!
Semi-Cons:
  • Not a ton of pictures–because Yummly is pulling from other websites into it’s own, it can’t take pictures. So it’s up to you and your ‘tastebuds’ (friends, get it??) to upload a photo or 2 of things you cook from Yummly so others can see what it looks like.
  • There’s no ‘what’s in my pantry’ feature. It would be pretty cool to punch in everything you have in your kitchen and have the option for Yummly to only search for recipes including things you already have–much like SuperCook. But this is a luxury that I do not mind foregoing for the time being.
  • No way to save filter criteria–let’s say I do a whole bunch of different stuff for filtering purposes, currently there’s no way to save that search to use again later–I feel like that will be a somewhat easy thing for them to add in later though.
  • No iOS app….yet?? <—-Just me being a HUGE nerd!
Check Yummly out, you won’t be sorry! Don’t forget to add me as a ‘TasteBud’, my handle is ‘briantetrault’!

Nov19 What’s Bri been up to?

My very good friend German Lam of GLAM Foods, llc and I have collaborated to create a great commercial for German’s company! All the production and editing was done by me and had some great help from my friend Meg Rodney as a PA and a model. Hope you enjoy, share with your friends!

Mar04 Everything but the kitchen sink

What a great idea! The Accordian Folding Cook Table by Hettich. Sneaky little triangular drawers pop out from the folds of the table (that’s why it’s called the Accordion). Sliding counter tops and more drawers on the left and right side of the table, makes this the most coveted kitchen platform. The beauty doesn’t stop here, drawer covers can be upturned to be used as preparation boards. Transparent plastic let’s you know what the boxes hold, without having to open them. The functional modules can be configured in two to four sets, giving you the perfect kitchen!
