Nov04 What’s Bri been up to? A Knight’s Poem

I recently finished a really interesting and great project for Buckingham Browne & Nichols (BB&N). This shoot involved a lot of pre-production, pinpoint production (shoot day), and much time in post. This was the first kind of project I’ve done like this and it was a really great experience and can’t wait to do more like it! A few SERIOUS shout outs go to my brother, Jeff Tetrault, who helped me right from the beginning with concept and design and was the lead writer and consultant for me. Meg Rodney was a great assistant director and camera operator. Sheryl Lanzel did amazing as production assistant and production still photographer. Scott Venable is the knight (on Gaelen the horse) and Frank Hildebrand did the voiceover. The entire video was shot using Sony FS100 and Canon 5D MkII and edited in FCP7 & Soundtrack Pro. All behind the scenes photographs and production stills ©Sheryl Lanzel.

Nov02 I Moved!

That’s right, my office has moved! Possibly the shortest move ever….same building, same FLOOR! I’m now located at 681 Main Street #3-27 in Waltham. I’m sharing with the great Leah LaRiccia! Stop by anytime, my door is always open! (And yes, I’ll do some non-camera-phone pictures soon).

Oct18 Canon 1D X Announced

Well, in the chess match between Canon and Nikon, Canon has once again made a ‘first move’. Perfect timing for the upcoming Photo Plus Expo, this release of their new monster DSLR will surely great some stir–and probably some anger with Nikon folks. Quick summary: 18mp, full frame CMOS, 12 fps, ridiculously fast processing, all of the amazing movie capabilities you would expect–now with 2 different compression options. Those are just to name a few. I’ll let these guys fill in the rest:

Aug24 ‘Light It’ iPad Magazine from Kelby Media Group launches

Photography training mogul Kelby Media Group has launched an iPad only digital publication called ‘Light It’. The premiere issue (available now), is free–yes FREE–and can be downloaded here: Light It. No word quite yet as to how much subscriptions will be, but knowing the Kelby crew, it will be worth every penny! I’ve downloaded it myself and have included a couple screenshots. The content not only looks amazing but is of course incredibly useful. It’s not super ‘ad heavy’ but they are present–interested to see if paid subscriptions will diminish some of the ads. Entire spread is 54 pages long, I’d say 30-35% is full page ads.

Aug09 Yummly – The ‘Google’ of recipe searching

When it comes to searching for recipes on the web, it doesn’t get much slicker than this. Yes, I’ve done some work for these guys (see here), but I also use them on quite a regular basis. Recipe searches online tend to be very overwhelming–even with Google’s recipe search feature. Yummly is set up for anyone, anywhere–even my not-so-techy mother!

Pros:

  • Ability to search ALL of the top recipe sites out there–including Epicurious and AllRecipes.
  • You can completely hone in on recipes by using the easy filters–use the taste sliders to find something a little more spicy for tonight’s dinner, or filter out any allergies your guests have, even filter for how much the meal costs!
  • Save recipes for later, share them with friends, and you can even make tweaks to them–say if you add a little extra something. All of the recipes are editable (not edible–HA!).
  • Nutrition facts on almost every recipe
  • There’s a scaling feature–say it says servings is for 4, you can change it to 8 if you’re having a big dinner party and Yummly will convert all the ingredients for you! Big WIN there!
  • Setting up your ‘Tastebud’ profile is a great way to include favorite ingredients or leave out stuff you don’t like–like beets…yuck!
  • Oh yeah, it’s FREE!
Semi-Cons:
  • Not a ton of pictures–because Yummly is pulling from other websites into it’s own, it can’t take pictures. So it’s up to you and your ‘tastebuds’ (friends, get it??) to upload a photo or 2 of things you cook from Yummly so others can see what it looks like.
  • There’s no ‘what’s in my pantry’ feature. It would be pretty cool to punch in everything you have in your kitchen and have the option for Yummly to only search for recipes including things you already have–much like SuperCook. But this is a luxury that I do not mind foregoing for the time being.
  • No way to save filter criteria–let’s say I do a whole bunch of different stuff for filtering purposes, currently there’s no way to save that search to use again later–I feel like that will be a somewhat easy thing for them to add in later though.
  • No iOS app….yet?? <—-Just me being a HUGE nerd!
Check Yummly out, you won’t be sorry! Don’t forget to add me as a ‘TasteBud’, my handle is ‘briantetrault’!
