Been messing around a bit with Apple’s new Final Cut Pro X? Also been playing with shooting more video? Well one thing that can easily separate the ‘men from the boys’ is knowing about color grading. Color grading is not just correcting bad color or changing colors here and there–it’s SO much more and can really step up your game if done correctly. FCPX’s new color correction features are amazing and can do a lot. The tricky part might be learning it right the first time and not having to piece together an education. This is where Color Grading Central comes in.

I stumbled across this website and proceeded to fall in love! Not only is the content incredibly informative, but is laid out and presented in a structured, easy-to-learn way. I find a lot of online instruction to be boring, too long, and incredibly disorganized. The folks at Color Grading Central have all of this really dialed in–oh, and the 15 part series is FREE! Adobe CS6/Creative Cloud is here!

The long awaited major update to the entire Adobe Creative Suite was announced today. There is some seriously major updates to many of the applications, but perhaps the biggest news is the new Creative Cloud. Creative Cloud is Adobe’s new offering where you pay a monthly fee to get full access to all of Adobe’s software, plus much much more!

Advanced speedlights (Nikon & Canon)

When: Saturday, April 21, 2012
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Where: Waltham MA Campus
Instructor: Brian Tetrault

Are you not as comfortable using speedlights as you’d like to be? In this workshop, we’ll take the second-guessing out of these sometimes confusing flash units and learn how to approach their use in several situational examples. Through in-class shooting exercises, we’ll see the difference between working with flash inside and outside as the primary and secondary light source.

Main topics we will cover:
- Understanding the terminology – sync speed, curtain sync, i-TTL/ETTL, and more
- Speedlight as the primary light source
- Speedlight as the secondary light source (fill)
- Working with an off-camera speedlight
- Working with multiple speedlights
- Thinking creatively – overpowering the sun, using modifiers, and more

Prerequisites: Intermediate to advanced DSLR understanding, beginner to intermediate speedlight understanding

Class requirements: notebook & pen, Nikon or Canon DSLR w/memory card and lens(es), minimum of 1 Nikon or Canon speedlight, extra AA batteries for speedlight(s)

It’s here! Anyone can now download the Lightroom 4 Beta. I have not yet played around with it at all but will be posting my comments/videos as soon as I can. Here is a couple new features that Adobe has highlighted:

Highlight and shadow recovery brings out all the detail that your camera captures in dark shadows and bright highlights.
Photo book creation with easy-to-use elegant templates.
Location-based organization lets you find and group images by location, assign locations to images, and display data from GPS-enabled cameras.
White balance brush to refine and adjust white balance in specific areas of your images.
Additional local editing controls let you adjust noise reduction and remove moiré in targeted areas of your images.
Extended video support for organizing, viewing, and making adjustments and edits to video clips.
Easy video publishing lets you edit and share video clips on Facebook and Flickr®.
Soft proofing to preview how an image will look when printed with color-managed printers.
Email directly from Lightroom using the email account of your choice.
